On Wednesday, June 7, officers responded to Jersey Lanes at 30 N. Park Ave. after a delivery truck driver said Anthony Torres stole his backpack from his vehicle while he was on break, Captain Christopher Guenther said. The driver confronted Torres, grabbing him by his shirt as Torres entered a parked vehicle, Guenther said.

Torres struck the driver several times and then the driver was hit by the vehicle as it fled the scene, Guenther said. The driver suffered minor injuries, Guenther said.

Torres was charged with robbery in the first degree and burglary in the third degree.

On Monday, July 17, police received a report of a man breaking into cars on the 300 block of Hurst Street, Guenther said. Torres drove to the area in a stolen vehicle, entered three unlocked vehicles and stole credit cards, identification and several hundred dollars in cash, Guenther said.

Torres remains incarcerated at the Essex County Jail, Guenther said.
